The opening round of the Leinster Junior Cup yesterday for Castleknock was fought against Gonzaga College.Good dry conditions foretold excellent ground for upfield kicking and strong running. For the first few minutes knock dominated possesion from the kick off and then converted it into points with a well-struck drop goal from fly half
P.O'Connell.Soon after 'Super Sub' D.Henry came on for the injured Aaron McNally and announced himself in the match with a spectacular try from silky running. The consequent conversion was calmly knocked over by P.O'Connell.Knock were building great momentum from excellent work rate from the pack but were getting continually
penalised and Gonzaga finally converted it to points with a penalty struck by their fly half. From the restart Knock stormed through with a phenomenal try from captain J.O'Neill.The conversion was unsuccessful.Score at the break at 15-3.Knock never looked back as thing just got better from there on in.J.Daly wrapped up the result with an excellent try in the corner from burning pace. The conversion didnt find its mark despite a good effort, going marginally wide.A drop goal from D.Henry and another fantastic and well worked try from inspirational back line saw captain J.O'Neill slip in the corner to seal the result for knock once more.Despite some late Gonzaga revivals the Knock defence kept them out to secure a try-less loss for Gonzaga.

Tries - Ard Scoil - Penalty Try
Hard physical game up front in muddy and wet conditions on Saturday the 6th.The Knock backs got very little ball during the game, but when they did they looked very promising and dangerous. The ball was like a bar of soap so the team kept it tight with alot of effort from the forwards up front.Whenever Scoil Rhise got the ball they put clever kicks behind our defence as they were going down hill in the first half, they gave a strong chase putting pressure on Sheamus Ingle, the full back but he did well under the high ball in the dreadful conditions. The captains lead from the front, with excellent and fearless defence from both sides. Both sides willing to put their body on the line for their teams and schools. In the 10th minute Hooker R.McCormack barreled over the line with great support from the forwards.Soon after the restart Ard Scoil made an excellent brake with their winger but were awarded a penalty try after an unmalicious off the ball tackle. There was a few close calls on the Knock try line but ferocious scrummaging from the Knock front row and co. saw us steal several Ard Scoil put ins' to the scrum. In reply to Ard Scoils Penalty try strong running from the scrum on Ard Scoil's try line saw flanker C.Maher storm over their line. Then finally 10 minutes from the end of full time J.Redmond twisted over the line with excellent rucking from the pack to seal the victory for Knock.
